Case Study
The Challenge: Overcoming Critical Data Delays
Shell Pipeline faced significant hurdles in sharing crucial crude oil assay data with its venture partners, a process mandated by regulators. Their standard operating procedure involved an external testing lab emailing results to Shell personnel. This was followed by painstaking manual data entry into Excel files, which were then emailed upon request. This cumbersome, multi-step process was not only labor-intensive and highly prone to errors from manual data transfer but, critically, resulted in information being severely outdated—often taking three months to distribute assay results from the time the crude oil was originally tested.
The Solution: Implementing myDataIQ for Seamless Automation
To eliminate these bottlenecks and inaccuracies, Shell Pipeline implemented myDataIQ. This innovative solution was engineered to streamline and automate the entire process of transferring and publishing assay results.
Under the new system:
- Shell’s external lab partner could now directly input assay analysis results into the secure myDataIQ online portal or seamlessly export data from their Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) directly into myDataIQ.
- Upon receiving new data, myDataIQ automatically sends email notifications to designated Shell users.
- These users can then instantly log in to review the assay information and access automatically generated, easy-to-understand graphical reports.
- Once approved by Shell personnel, the information and reports are immediately published onto Shell Pipeline’s public Capline Website.
The Results & Impact: Efficiency, Accuracy, and Real-Time Access
The deployment of myDataIQ delivered transformative and measurable benefits for Shell Pipeline:
- Drastic Reduction in Turnaround Time: The most significant impact was the reduction in data distribution time, plummeting from a lengthy three-month delay to near real-time, immediate publication post-approval.
- Enhanced Operational Efficiency: By eliminating manual data entry and repetitive email exchanges, myDataIQ vastly reduced labor hours and expedited the entire workflow.
- Increased Data Accuracy: Automation minimized the risk of human error inherent in manual data transfer, leading to significantly more reliable and accurate data for all stakeholders
- Real-Time Data Accessibility: Authorized Shell users and their partners gained the ability to view up-to-date crude oil test results anytime and anywhere, directly from the Capline Website.
- Advanced Analytical Capabilities: The public website now offers robust search features, empowering users to research and analyze historical records efficiently—a feature previously unavailable with the Excel-based method.
- Positive Stakeholder Reception: myDataIQ has received excellent feedback from Shell Pipeline personnel, its venture partners, and external lab partners, highlighting its effectiveness and user-friendly interface.
This successful implementation is showcased on Shell Pipeline’s Capline Website, demonstrating the lasting value delivered by myDataIQ.
Overview of Requirements:
In order to expedite and better manage internal processes, Portraits International required an automated system that would interlink departmental information to provide real time data and track various key points of information from different locations.
Functions & Features:
SunNet developed a Web portal for their administrators to control and manage internal processing and delivery times, and track data either by specific locations or by combining all locations, while also allowing employees to input and track their own information.
Benefits:
Portraits International could now easily manage and track internal performance to insure that final product orders would be delivered on schedule, and departments now had the ability to add real-time account data for company-wide accuracy.
